Over the Hills

As the title mentions, this painting is a depiction of my love for the English countryside and the wicket gate and  the path here being painted leads to an unknown destination beyond the gates, overlooking the valley, a typical rustic feature of the English landscape. There is always a stillness about the country sides of England with its vast expanse of valleys and meadows stretching into the horizon which any artist who loves nature would be excited to paint.

This scene was captured on stretched canvas and was a part of my studio collection before it was sold to one of my cousins who was very eager to have it for her office. To me, this painting portrayed two different aspects – though it was painted with oil pigments using linseed oil and turpentine, it also resembled a water colour painting from a distance. I wanted to add a farming scene to the area below the path but I decided not to include any human presence in some of my paintings which also happened to be a similar case in this scene too.

Though initially the clouds were painted thicker and brighter, I had to mellow down the brightness as it was dominating the scene in the foreground and the focus of attention was on the clouds. After that change, the trees, the path and the scene including the walls and the gate in the foreground seemed to take over as the main focus point. Titled “OVER THE HILLS”, done with Oil on Canvas
