Snow fall

This was a different experiment for me to try a winter scene for the first time and I had to use reference photographs of bare winter trees from a friend in Sweden. I wanted to paint a very bleak and heavy winter scene without sunlight at all but later on decided to depict both the early morning sun and the thick layers of snowfall on the ground which was enhanced by painting the dark areas with white to show the depth of the snow covered ground.

I felt it would be a less challengeable subject to paint a winter scene since half the canvas had nothing left to be painted as the sky was already white but looking back at the work that was done, I would admit I put my maximum effort to create this lovely scene. The wicket gate and the fence with the snow topped cross bars was an interesting area I enjoyed painting and despite being a winter scene, I have used more blues then whites here to make it look as dull as I could make it. I had originally titled it as “When snow falls, nature listens”, but later shortened it to “SNOWFALL” Painted during November 2019, with oil on canvas, this painting was sold in May 2021.
