The English Cottage
This would be a dream house for any artist who would want to have a studio in such a tranquil setting. The endless countryside stretching out beyond the window would have been the ideal view an artist would love to paint every day.
I decided to paint this cottage for a few imaginary reasons – the calm and soothing environment around, the cold stone walls and most probably a warm fire place within the cottage is what any artist would love to set up his studio within.
Though it took me an entire month to paint as it was also done with linseed oil and oils, I thoroughly enjoyed painting this scene. It was just a single cottage but I never knew the detailing of the stones and the thatched roof of the cottage itself would take so much time. The late afternoon sun which cast its shadows all around the cottage made it even more interesting for me to capture this scene. I thought of painting smoke around one of the chimney to make the cottage appear livelier but later on I decided against it. Titled “The English Cottage”, Acrylic and oil on Canvas, 16 x 20 Inches, completed in January 2020.
